Baptism Visitors

Who we are.

Baptism Visitors are members of the All Saints Church Congregation who volunteer to support the Vicar and the Parents through the process of Baptism

What we do.

Once an Application for Baptism form is received we contact the Parents to support them and make sure they are comfortable with the process. A Baptism Visitor will volunteer to be the link with the family and support the Vicar and the parents during the Baptism and if necessary through the Welcome to introduce the child, young person or adult to the church family. The Baptism Visitor Co-ordinator is them self a Baptism Visitor and oversees the process to support the Vicar.

Time and place

Baptisms usually take place within the All Age Service unless more than 40 - 45 guests are expected when, by arrangement with the Vicar, they can take place privately, usually on a Sunday afternoon. Following a private Service the family (with Godparents and close family if they wish) return to church during an All Age service to be welcomed into the Church Family for the completion of the Baptism process when the one baptised receives a lit candle and gifts.

Further info

The volunteer post application will require references, but not, at present, a DBS check. All new Baptism Visitors are supported throughout, with a ‘buddy’ who is an experienced Baptism Visitor who will explain the processes and the volunteer will shadow the ‘buddy’ and gradually take on the role once they are comfortable with the tasks

Contact info

The first point of call is the Baptism Visitor Co-ordinator or the Vicar. If you would like an informal chat about the Baptism Role please contact Jill Timms (Baptism Visitor Co-ordinator) on 01604 810051, email jill.timms@btinternet.com .
