A letter from the PCC
The ministry of our church changes lives both in our church and in the wider community. There is much for which we as a church can be grateful and we continue to look forward to an exciting and challenging time under God. However, nobody much likes talking about money, but in the Church it is vital to resource God’s work and our giving should be seen as having a spiritual quality.
Ministry costs money and it is important for all of us to review each year our financial commitment. As a member of All Saints, we are inviting you to review the amount of money you give to God’s work here so that together we can:
• Express our thanks to God for all he has blessed us with, in our homes and families
• Give glory to God here in our worship.
• Sustain our activities for our children, our young people and the elderly; extend our care for the wider community, the bereaved and the sick and our welcome to those coming for baptisms, for those we meet in local outreach and help those in need, both home and abroad by giving to mission.
• Pay our bills, for gas and electricity, insurance and day to day running.
• Pay our Parish share; that is the costs of a minister, to enable us to demonstrate that we have continuing healthy finances when they are appointed.
To do all of this, and more costs £1532 each week. To meet this challenge we are asking each individual and household in the church to do just two things:
1. To review his or her financial commitment to our church.
2. To make that giving effective through Gift Aid if you pay tax and by Standing Order - if that is appropriate.
The Church Council will not ask you to do something that we would not do ourselves. We have already committed ourselves individually to review and increase our own personal giving to our church. For your part whatever amount of money you decide to give to our church each week, or month, We know you will make your giving decision after prayer and reflection, being realistic, thoughtful and generous and then ‘give it cheerfully’. You can help and leaving it all to others is not an option for us. In this time of interregnum we all need to continue to pull together
In the faith of Jesus Christ, see what you can do individually and then just see what we can all do together, but most of all see what God in Christ Jesus will do with us, in us, for us and through us in the coming years!
Some practicalities that you need to know. The PCC have decided that we will begin to use the Diocesan giving scheme, at no cost to us. It will give us a much improved cash flow situation as we receive all of your offerings to All Saints with Gift Aid added straight away (where eligible). It will also cut down the huge amount of work that our Treasurer and Stewardship Recorder have to do. We are therefore asking, where possible, for you to change your Standing Order payment (leaflet enclosed) and seriously consider swapping from the envelope scheme to paying through the bank. We plan to start this from February 2010. Kay Brown, our Stewardship recorder will be available after church over the next few weeks to help you to arrange this, and to answer any questions that you may have.
Yours in Jesus
